terrorism free write

When I was in the first grade I saw 9/11 on TV. My mother was crying and my father had left for work and I was scared that my mother was so sad but at the time I didn’t really know what was going on because I was too young to understand. The later it went on, the more information came in and I grew more knowledgeable about what happened. Every year when we have a moment of silence for the 9/11 attacks I have fear in my head but I know that the US is staying strong after this. On May 2nd, 2011, Osama Bin Laden was killed by US troops in Pakistan. My initial reaction was that I was happy but the more I thought about it the worse it gets because there will always be consequences and repercussions after something as big as this. Weather there is fringe groups or other Al-Queada leaders there definitely will be repercussions. I was not alive but I was informed that in 1993, Bin Laden tried to explode a bomb near the world trade center in New York. This to me, makes it better that he is now dead. For some reason I got the impression that Osama was very old because he had been in the terrorism incidents for years but he was only about 54 years old and that means he could have kept putting on damage to the us for many more years. So to me, it was very important that we had him killed. I will never take pride in killing a person but I will have pride in our country. When I first heard that Osama had been killed, I first thought about what that meant to this country and how big of a deal it was. Once it set in I started to take to my teachers and my parents about what this meant. With my parents, they thought it was very important mostly to their generation because they were here and mature during his reign of horror. My teachers talked about how it affected a certain age group also and that there will most likely be repercussions of what happened. We also talked about how it is better if they are more organized because a chaotic number of fringe groups can get very bad who will just do anything in response to the killing of Osama. One more thing that people, teachers and news stations are talking about is if Pakistan already knew the whereabouts of him. This concerns me because that could mean there is more underground terrorism going on that the US should know about. I think that we need to do what ever it takes to stop the war on terror. We are obviously trying to do that but I think that should be the number one priority which I think it is right now. This has been a good free write and I thank you for the time you are giving us to discuss such topics in class.

Blog on Night-Maus I/II

I think that Night is a little bit easier to take seriously because it is a true story. Maus 1 and 2 are easier to read and understand because they are mice and pigs and they pictures to help show what they are talking. I think that they both are very serious and good books to help you understand and learn about the holacaust, while they are still great reads. When Vladek and Anja go through their hard times as a couple that has nothing to do about the holacaust but it adds an element to the book that is very neccasarry while Night''s setting is entirely on the holacaust. I do not have the books so i could not cite the books but in the thse second chapter of Night, they are sent to a cam where as in Maus, the concentration camp scenes do not start until about the second alf of the book.  I think that you should read both because you will learn everything about the holacaust from two different points of view, Night s a true story so you know hat it is credible for facts and a real story and Maus is a very interesting book which is also a true story but there is a big part of the book whichis one's life whih helps add to the devastation and view of the time period and the position they were in in Poland. Also, it helps to read both of the books because the comparisons of the two helps you understand. If I had t choose a book I would pick the Maus books, by Art Speiglmen because it was much easier to understand with its picturesand its easier writing.

Restrepo Blog Assignment

1. Some scenes that bring the book, Fallen Angels, are in the beginning when they find out that they are going to the most dangerous valley in Afgahnistan. It is like the beginning of the book where everybody is scared. 2. Also, when they lose Restrepo in a firefight. That is like Jenkins dying first in the book.
3. The scene with The group bonding reminds me of Peewee and Perry becoming friends.
4. When they go to eat, that makes me thuink of: When doe sthe fallen angel's squad eat.
5. When they start swearing in fire fights, it reminds me of Peewee swearing in the book.
6. In the movie they talk about what they will do when they get home, Perry talks about Kenny's life and what he will do when he gets home to harlem.
7. The scene with the men teasing the other guys is not like the book, the book doesn;t have much comedy and not many jokes.
8. The scene with the men in a firefight is not like the book because the book has a lot of secualr fighting and not just shootoffs from their bases.
9. The scenes with the black men are not like the book because there was a racist in the book and there is not one in the movie  that we know of.
10. The scene with them losing there second man in a battle is like when they lose Brew later in the book.

I think that the book, Fallen Angels, and the movie, Restrepo, showed that the concept of war is a 95% negative exerience. The other 5% is meeting new pople, going to new places and the feeling of protecting your country and your peers. I would consider those things positive. Some exaples f this are that Perry in the book, canges ad becomes more confident and that will help him thogh out the rest of his life. Another example is that the menin Restrepo seem to connect t one another and they find interests in eachother and they enjoy that. An example of that i when they tease the lunch man tatmakes geat food. They tase him and hit him for fun and yuo can tell they ar enjoying themselves. The reasons that the war is so bad is that, close friends die, (Restrepo or Jenkins), you can get very badly injured like many soldiers in Korugan Valley and you are away from yor home and your family for a long period of time.

Siddhartha

Siddhartha's relationship with Kamala reflects in my beleifs very poorly because in my beleifs if you love somone and have a child with them you should love them through sickness and death. You should not leave your lover because my religion would not approve of that. I know that Siddhartha leaves Kamala because of this quote; "The same night, Siddhartha left his garden and Kamala and never came back."- page 85. This quote shows that Siddhartha blatenly left Kamala when they needed to tend to their child. Siddhartha leaves her because he has not foud hiimself and the author is saying that life is about finding yourself and I do not agree with what he is doing. I also think that Siddartha's relationship with Kamala does not reflaect well with my beleifs because neither of them can love. We know that Kamala cannot love because because she is a courtesan so she doesn't know what real love is. Siddhartha cannot love because he is consumed by his quest for himself so he cannot love. These are the reasons that their relationship does not reflect well with my beleifs.
